Sports safety

High-risk sports

Given that the CST primarily hosts courses included in the Y+S programme, the institution’s guidelines are considered binding. Should such guidelines be absent for certain sports, the guidelines of the relevant sports federation shall apply.

High-risk sports may only be practised under the supervision of Y+S instructors, trainers and teachers with specialist training. This applies in particular to the following disciplines:

  • Y+S disciplines: sport climbing, canoeing, rowing, cycling (mountain biking, artistic cycling, cyclo-cross, cycle ball, unicycling, bike trials, BMX), golf, parkour, fencing, combat sports (wushu/kung fu, wrestling, Swiss wrestling, judo, jujitsu, karate, light kickboxing, light contact boxing), aquatic sports (artistic swimming, swimming, lifesaving, water polo, diving), stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, archery, trampolining, sailing.
  • Non-Y+S disciplines: scuba diving.

Group size

For organizational reasons, there are clear rules regarding the maximum group size in the following sports:

  • Archery: 12
  • Canoeing (lake): 8
  • Canoeing (river): 6
  • Golf: 12
  • Mountainbike: 12
  • Rowing (lake): 8
  • Sailing: 8
  • Sports climbing (artificial wall): 12
  • Sports climbing (rock): 6
  • Stand-up paddle: 12
  • Windsurfing: 12

Through Sisport (www.sisport.ch), groups can hire qualified instructors for all sports. Course leaders may contact Sisport directly only after receiving confirmation of the sports facilities from the CST.
