Sports activities

Over 60 different sports activities can be practised at the CST. The range includes indoor and outdoor disciplines, individual and team sports, sand activities and water disciplines.

Aquafit

CST has an Olympic-size swimming pool and a non-swimmer pool. Lanes 1 and 8 of the 50-meter Olympic pool are suitable for small-group aquafit activities. The non-swimmer pool, with a depth ranging from 60 cm to a maximum of 130 cm, is ideal for aquafit beginners. CST is equipped with a set of flotation belts for aquafit.

Archery

CST has a dedicated space for archery practice, divided into three sections. It provides bows for both children and adults, for right-handed and left-handed individuals, as well as arm and finger protection.

Artistic and apparatus gymnastics

The Brere gymnasium at CST is equipped with fixed apparatus, perfect for practising artistic gymnastics. A further two triple gymnasia (Gottardo and Naviglio) are more than suitable for training in all the artistic gymnastics disciplines.

Athletics

The CST offers ideal conditions for training in all athletic disciplines. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, a fully equipped indoor sports hall is available.

Attractions

There are plenty of interesting attractions in the region around Tenero for groups staying at the CST.

Badminton

CST has 21 badminton courts located in the Gottardo and Naviglio gyms. Badminton can also be played on outdoor courts. CST provides all the necessary equipment for training sessions.

Baseball / Softball

Baseball can be played on green open areas in several parts of the Centre. CST has a complete set of equipment comprising balls, bats, gloves, a batting tee, chest protectors and catcher's masks.

Basketball

CST has 12 basketball courts and all the equipment needed for training sessions. The Gottardo gymnasium is authorized to host interational basketball events.

Beach soccer

CST has two beach soccer fields suitable for training sessions and matches.

Beach tennis

CST has eight beach tennis courts and all the equipment required for running training sessions. Two courts are equipped with the special nets needed for matches.

Beach volleyball

CST has eight standard beach volleyball courts.

BMX

The CST has a 200-metre-long BMX track with steep banks and a standard start gate, as well as a 100-metre-long pumptrack.

Canoeing

CST provides opportunities for canoeing on Lake Maggiore and on the Ticino and Moesa rivers.

Catamaran

CST has four catamarans called “RS Cat 14”, which are the most suitable vessels for introducing beginners to the sport. Each boat can accommodate a crew of two young sailors and offers greater stability compared to monohulls.

Cycle polo

CST has suitable outdoor areas for playing the game (artificial surfaces and grassy areas) and is equipped with the bicycles and mallets required for cycle polo training and matches.

Disc golf

CST has a nine-hole disc golf course that stretches around the entire perimeter of the centre. Users benefit from special discs that are smaller and more rigid than ordinary frisbees. Recommended activity to better explore the CST area.

Diving

The CST has a pool equipped with 1 & 3-metre competition springboards, , 3 & 5-metre diving platforms, 1 & 3-metre springboards for synchronized diving and a ramp for acrobatic ski jumping.

Fencing

The CST offers the opportunity to conduct group introductory fencing lessons. Suitable equipment and material such as swords, sabres, masks, gloves and protective vests (without electrical parts) are available.

Field hockey

CST has an artificial outdoor pitch suitable for matches and training sessions. The game can be played in the gymnasium during the winter months.

Fistball

CST has outdoor areas suitable for fistball. Nets can be erected and lines drawn to mark out the field as and when required.

Flag football

Flag football is a team sport derived from American football. Instead of tackling players to the ground, the defence must remove a flag from the belt of the ball carrier. CST has the equipment for introducing beginners to flag football.

Floorball

CST has three large and six small indoor floorball courts with viewing stands. There are three open pitches for outdoor games as well as an enclosed facility with railings.

Football

CST offers 9 regulation-size natural grass fields, 3 synthetic turf fields (2 FIFA Quality standard and one third-generation), and 6 non-regulation fields.

Freediving

CST has a 50-metre Olympic pool and another pool for non-swimmers ranging from 60 cm to 130 cm in depth. Both pools are ideal for introducing beginners to the discipline of freediving.

Golf

CST gives beginners the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the golf sport and get to grips with the basics.

Handball

CST has three regulation-size handball courts – one with a wooden floor and two with polyurethane surfaces. CST has all the equipment necessary for handball training sessions and matches.

Hip hop, dance

CST has various indoor and outdoor spaces where this discipline can be practiced. The gyms are equipped with fixed audio systems, while for all other areas, a personal mobile audio system is required.

Inline skating

The CST offers the opportunity to practice inline skating both on its internal roads and on the pumptrack. The region is also well-suited for excursions along the flat roads of the Magadino Plain.

Jogging

CST offers the opportunity to practice this discipline freely and without reservation on the Finnish track (1 km), on the athletics track, or along the edges of the fields (about 2 km). Runners can make use of the changing rooms.

Judo, ju-jitsu, karate

CST has a multipurpose space ideal for martial arts. Additionally, two triple gyms and the Regazzi gym are available. CST provides tatami mats and kimonos in various sizes.

Kin-Ball

CST has several Kin-Balls and various halls and outdoor areas that are suitable for playing the game.

Lacrosse

CST has outdoor areas suitable for playing lacrosse. The game can also be played in the gymnasium during the winter months. CST has all the equipment needed for training sessions and matches, including goals, sticks and balls.

Maxi tramp

CST has several maxi-trampolines, which can be set up in the various gymnasia, in open spaces adjacent to the buildings and under the portico of the Gottardo building.

Mountain biking

CST has around fifty mountain bikes in different sizes and a 100-metre-long pump track. This offers a unique experience and promotes a wide range of motor skills from balance to fine motor coordination. The terrain is ideal for shorter or longer excursions around Locarno, the Verzasca Valley, the Maggia Valley, the Magadino plain and the Cardada region. Maps detailing various routes are available from reception.

Orienteering

CST has three orienteering routes with fixed control points. Users can choose between a short, medium and long route. The control points are equipped with electronic punch systems. Recommended activity to better explore the CST area.

Parkour / Street Workout

Parkour is a sporting discipline that challenges the body's ability to move along a particular course in a creative, effective and varied way.

Roller hockey

CST has a regulation-size skater hockey rink equipped with boards. CST provides the necessary equipment for practicing the sport, including sticks, gloves, helmets, and protective gear.

Rowing

Rowing sessions at CST take place on Lake Maggiore. Groups are advised to take at least three two-and-a-half-hour lessons over a period of a week to acquire the necessary basic skills.

Roundnet / Spikeball

CST provides a wide range of areas where roundnet can be played, such as outdoor lawns, sand courts and gyms. CST is equipped with three trampolines and 20 balls.

Rugby

Rugby is a team sport involving a great deal of physical contact. Players have a great deal of freedom in how they choose to play the game and the tactics they employ.

Sailing

The CST offers the opportunity to practice sailing on Lake Maggiore. The CST’s nautical center includes four Laser class boats, eight RS Zest boats, and a Toura class boat. It also provides life jackets, wetsuits, and neoprene shoes. Additionally, two inflatables and a support boat are available.

Skimboarding

Skimboarding is a combination of surfing and skateboarding. It is practised through a slide board, smaller and lighter than the surfing ones. The CST is equipped with a skimpool and the related necessary equipment. The boards are available in three different sizes according to the weight of the participants.

Slacklining

CST provides opportunities to practise slacklining out of doors and in the gym and can supply the necessary equipment. Using the equipment requires a certain amount of skill.

Smolball

CST has the necessary equipment for playing Smolball: rackets, balls, goals and straps for younger players to secure the racket to the wrist.

Spa facility

CST has a spa facility complete with sauna, Turkish baths, a hydro-massage pool and a relaxation area.

Sport climbing

Each wall of the Basodino tower offers nine routes of varying difficulty, suitable for beginners and more experienced climbers alike. The indoor climbing wall in the Naviglio gymnasium offers 14 climbs of varying difficulty and uses a double pulley system.

Squash

CST has a squash facility comprising four courts and all the equipment required for playing the game.

Stand-up paddle

CST offers stand-up paddle boarding on the Lake Maggiore. It counts up to 24 sup paddles, 36 stand up paddle and 1 SUP-Polo-Set for practising this sport.

Stand Up Paddle Polo (SUP Polo)

CST has all the necessary materials for playing this sport: 12 stand-up paddle polo boards, 12 SUP polo paddles, 2 inflatable goals and 2 balls.

Street racket

CST has four regulation-size outdoor street racket courts. CST provides the rackets.

Street surfing / longboarding

CST has 15 street surfing boards and longboards, as well as helmets and other protective equipment.

Swimming

CST offers optimal training facilities for all swimming disciplines. The quality of its facilities has led Swiss Aquatics to establish a national center of excellence in Tenero.

Swiss wrestling

CST has an outdoor ring covered in sawdust for practising Swiss wrestling and can provide jute shorts.

Table tennis

CST has two triple gymnasia and a gallery where table tennis can be played. Around fifteen tables are available, together with bats and balls. There are also a number of outdoor tables available for general use.

Tennis

CST has 12 tennis courts: four (red) clay courts and eight courts with an artificial surface.

Triathlon

Various triathlon associations and clubs come to CST on a regular basis to take advantage of the ideal training conditions.

Volleyball

CST has 18 volleyball courts: ten outdoor courts with synthetic, asphalt or grass surfaces and eight indoor courts with polyurethane or wooden flooring.

Water polo

CST offers optimal conditions for the practice of all aquatic sports. It features a 50-meter pool where official water polo matches can be held. Two additional pools can also be equipped with water polo goals, including the non-swimmers' pool, which is ideal for beginners. CST provides various types of balls and all the necessary equipment for training.

Windsurfing

CST has all the necessary equipment to practice windsurfing on Lake Maggiore.

Winter programme

Green sports pitches in Tenero and ideal snow conditions in the mountains. CST is the perfect venue for a multi-sports camp in winter.
